Google is rolling out major updates to its Search and Discover platforms, introducing advanced AI-powered features and improved user controls. The tech giant aims to create a more personalized, seamless browsing experience while giving users new ways to manage what they see online. Among the most notable changes is the introduction of collapsible sponsored ads, a move that redefines how advertisements appear in search results.


Control Over Sponsored Results

With the new update, users can now collapse ads on Google Search by tapping the “Hide sponsored results” button. Once activated, the ads disappear from view, though the “Sponsored Results” label stays visible at the top of the page. This ensures transparency while allowing users to focus on organic results when desired.

Interestingly, the sponsored section will now appear both above and below AI Overviews Google’s AI-generated summaries that provide quick, context-rich answers to user queries. Additionally, all text ads will be grouped under the “Sponsored” header at the bottom of the results page. Users can collapse these ads, maintaining a cleaner and more distraction-free browsing experience.

Despite these adjustments, Google confirmed that the number and size of ads remain unchanged; users will continue to see no more than four text ads in any group. The redesigned layout will roll out across desktop and mobile platforms globally, offering a more intuitive and streamlined interface. The “Sponsored” label will also extend to Shopping ads, where users will notice a “Sponsored Products” tag for promoted listings.

AI-Powered Enhancements in Search and Discover

Google is also infusing AI capabilities into its Search and Discover experiences. Sports fans, for example, will soon see a “What’s New” button when searching for players or teams. This feature curates trending news, updates, and match highlights all in one place and is launching in the U.S. first.


Meanwhile, the Google Discover feed is evolving with an AI-powered preview system. Users can explore trending stories and personalized updates presented as short, expandable summaries that include links to related content.This new Discover experience is currently rolling out in the U.S., South Korea, and India, aiming to keep users informed across a wide range of interests and topics.
